Germany's RWE is withdrawing from a wind project worth above250m euros, with the group saying things have not gone as planned.Still, RWE states it is still looking for good wind power projects.Meanwhile, Spain's Iberdrola will start green energy production in2011 in an 80 MW wind farm, and businessman Emanuel Muntmarklaunches another 1,000 MW on the market.
2011 seems to be even busier than 2010 in terms of investments inwind projects.
"At the end of last year, 457 MW were installed in wind farms, meaning a capacity leap of 32 times from what was installed in2009," says Dana Duică, executive director with the RomanianAssociation for Wind Energy.
Thus, last year investments in the field amounted to around 820meuros, with CEZ 's project of Fântânele commune of Dobrogea as themost important.
Though estimates for this year on the new installed capacity gobeyond the 1,000 MW threshold, the first bad news from the part oflarge investors is emerging.
The Germans at RWE could also be the second investor leaving the 4billion-euro project to build reactors 3 and 4 of the Cernavodănuclear plant after CEZ threw in the towel.
