The competition open to Romanian citizens for filling the 215 jobs in the European public administration, law, economy and audit with the European institutions (European Parliament, European Commission etc.) saw a number of 9,213 people apply, European Personnel Selection Office (EPSO) data reveal. There are 42 people competing for one position, and the monthly basic salary starts from 3,900 euros. The similar competition opened to Bulgarians saw almost 5,400 people apply, with the number of positions offered to them standing at only 110, though, which means a competition of almost 49 people for every job, EPSO data reveal. "Competition for these positions will gradually increase, as more jobs become available and people receive more information. I think a similar competition six months from now would have at least 25% more people apply," stated Crista Filip, manager of BorderLine Services, which provides information and training services for those interested to participate in a European competition. She added, however, that the number of Romanian candidates to have applied was still rather low compared with that of the applicants in the competitions for the EU member states, mainly because Romanians still do not know exactly what a European job means. EPSO also announced 2,700 Romanian citizens had applied for one of the 225 secretarial positions, which means 12 people are competing for one position. The monthly salary starts from 2,400 euros in this case.
