CEC Bank set to reclaim lost market share

19.05.2008, 19:32 11

CEC Bank management's first goal is to consolidate the bank and its market position, and only after having done this it will consider the development of a financial group structure, says Radu Ghetea, the lender's chairman. "First, we need to consolidate the bank. Everything will be possible afterwards," Radu Ghesea explains. The sale of Asiban insurance company will soon be completed, in which CEC held 25%. The French at Groupama won the tender and will take over Asiban for 350 million euros. Ghetea added that every effort would go towards consolidating the bank's position on the market in the coming period. Over the last few years, CEC has been losing market share, going down from more than 30% at the beginning of the 2000s to 4.2% of the total assets in the system at present. CEC's management set out to reclaim 1 or 2% of the lost market share by 2010.
