Leoni, Kromberg & Schubert and SEWS take over three plants from Alcoa

Auto wiring manufacturers Leoni, Kromberg & Schubert, andSEWS have taken over three local plants from Alcoa, which gave upan over 30 million-euro business with almost 5,000 employees in2008.

Alcoa, which started its production operations in 2001 bybuilding a plant in Nadab, Arad county, sold its wire harnessbusiness in an international transaction to American investmentfund Platinum Equity only a few months after it had announced itwas planning to transfer component production from a Czech plantthat was about to close to the Romanian facilities.

The division sold to Platinum Equity had operations in 13countries and 17,500 employees.

Platinum Equity, which holds companies in the industrial,logistics, IT, telecom, media, and real estate sectors, then soldthe plants in Nadab (Arad), Caransebes (Caras Severin), and Beius(Bihor) to three major players in the wiring sector, in recentlycompleted transactions.
