Official data point to halving of Ford's market share, Americans explain how it happened

Ford's sales and market share have fallen by nearly 50% againstthe average of the first seven months after August 1st, the datewhen the Americans officially took over import operations,according to statistics of APIA (Automotive Manufacturers andImporters Association), while the brand's registrations fell by20-30%.


Henrik Nenzen, the new managing director of Ford importer, as ofOctober this year, explains the market share decline of the lastfew months referring to a frequent "practice" among companies inthe auto sector in the last two years, export of new cars.
"According to our calculations, based on APIA reports and on Policeregistrations, in the first nine months of this year 37% of Fordsales were accounted for by exports. This is why it managed toreach such a significant market share, of 7.4%. In fact, the Policefigures indicate a 6% market share," according to APIAstatistics.
Until August this year, imports of the American brand wereconducted by Romcar, a member of the Ţiriac group, controlled bybusinessman Ion Ţiriac, Romcar posted a nearly 132 million-euroturnover last year and a 6.4 million-euro net profit, being themost profitable importer in the portfolio of Ţiriac Holdings.
