Porsche Romania, the local importer of Volkswagen, Audi, Porsche, Skoda and Seat brands, is to sell 40,000 units this year, 22% more than last year, company representatives announced on Thursday. A quarter of the cars sold this year by Porsche will be delivered to the Capital, i.e. 10,000 units, out of the total 40,000 vehicles in the sales target. Porsche Romania is leader of the imported cars market, and its business on the local market will reach 658.1 million euros this year, a 17% increase against sales in 2005. The importer's turnover will grow by some 100 million euros this year. About half the cars delivered this year will be Skodas, with the rest of the imported brands making up the other half of Porsche's portfolio. Since entering the local market in 1998, Porsche Romania has increased its physical volume of sales by almost 8 times, with the value of the sales surging over 30 times, against the 2,200 units sold and 20.6 million euros collected in 1998. Since then, the Romanian car market has opened considerably - import used to account for 7% of the market, while the share of foreign cars currently accounts for more than half the market.
