Romsilva invests 40m euros in forest regeneration

Romsilva, The National Forest Authority (RNP), will invest 40 million euros this year in forest regeneration, according to company representatives. "Forest regeneration works will cover 15,400-hectares," said Gheorghe Dima, manager of the Afforestation and Development Department of RNP. RNP estimates to process 9.82 million cubic metres of timber, down 7.8% compared with last year, when the level stood at around 11 million cubic metres. Investments budgeted for 2008 amount to 82 million euros, which are destined to the reconstruction of roads (including forest roads) as well as modernising the transport and utility fleet. "The money comes both from our own funds (20 million euros) and from the state budget and external credits," said Dima. In addition Romsilva has allocated 5.5 million euros this year to acquire privately owned land.
