Sales of New Holland and Steyr tractors triple

07.09.2004, 00:00 19

New Holland Romania (NHR) Agropartners, an importer of New Holland and Steyr tractors and combines, as well as of Pottinger farm implements onto the Romanian market, projects sales of 20 million euros for this year. This is three times higher than the sales reported in the previous year. "Last year was very bad for Romanian agriculture, while 2004 is a very good one, hence the spectacular increase in our sales. Since 2001, our sales have registered constant growth, by 25%," says Erich Urban, managing director with NHR Agropartners. The company estimates it will sell about 120-140 tractors and 60 combines this year. The Romanian market for imports of new tractors and combines last year amounted to around 200-250 units. However, the market was flooded with second hand equipment from Hungary, which granted massive subsidies for the acquisition of new tractors and combines by Hungarian farmers, ahead of EU integration.
