2,500 Romanians have bet that Romania will win this summer's European football championship. Before the start of the championship, out of the over 10,000 bets placed with Astra Sport Bets bookmaker, 4,120 indicated Spain as the favourite to win Euro 2008, followed by Romania with almost 2,500 bets, and Italy with around 2,000. "I was myself surprised to see Romania placed as a winner on so many betting slips. Romanians are patriots, which is why they placed these bets," said Daniel Smeada, PR Manager of Astra Sport Bets bookmaker. The odds for Romania to win the tournament are 1:31, which means for a 10 RON bet the dividends are 310 RON, minus taxes. On the other hand, the Romanian national team's tough group does not provide the team with very good odds. The biggest bookmakers - Astra Sport Bets, Wettpunkt, and Stanleybet, believe France will win in today's game against Romania, with the odds for a Romanian win standing at 3:8 - 3:9. "Before the start of the championship, 19,000 slips placed Romania as the winner of the match with France, while the number of slips that opted for France was double," added Smeada. 13,340 bets forecast a draw at half time, and 13,000 a draw at the end of the game.
