A&D Pharma's growth comes from non-pharmaceuticals

07.05.2008, 18:15 6

The A&D Pharma group, the largest player in the local drug industry, posted higher than expected increases in the first quarter of this year, a heavier rise on the OTC drugs segment (drugs that may be sold without a prescription) and the cosmetics segment. "Currently, conditions are tough on the pharmaceutical market, so the battle is fought on the OTC drugs and on the cosmetics market, and this is where the increases come from," said Dragos Dinu, CEO of A&D Pharma. The Ministry of Health by means of direct negotiation sets the prices of prescription drugs in RON with the producers, so distributors incur fluctuations in the exchange rate. Under the circumstances, the import of prescription drugs is unattractive for distributors. Following the high cosmetics sales, A&D Pharma has launched its first dermocosmetics brand, Oxyance, manufactured in Italy. OTC drugs and cosmetics account for 35-40% of the total sales of the wholesale division, on top of which sales conducted through the sales and marketing division are added.
