Agricola Bacau continues to lose money

14.09.2008, 21:30 9

Agricola Bacau, one of the leading poultry producers on the local market, continued to see losses on all meat and charcuterie segments in the third quarter of this year, following the temporary closure of two of the company's production facilities. "The poultry production is below last year's, while for charcuterie we are seeing losses due to the increases in meat price by up to 60%," said Grigore Horoi, vicepresident of Agricola Bacau. However, he stands by the forecast target of achieving a similar turnover to the one derived last year, i.e. around 350 million RON (around 110 million euros). "We are examining the possibility of increasing prices by 20-30% by October 1st, given the current circumstances," says Horoi. All charcuterie producers are complaining about the small prices they operate, amid a continuous price increase for meat. According to a recent statement from Sorin Minea, chairman of Romalimenta (The Romanian Federation of Business Owners in the Food Industry), the majority of producers in the meat industry reported a production and profit decline this year against last year's results.
