Banks among the most popular stocks

14.03.2003, 00:00 13

Shares of the two banks listed on the capital market - BRD-SocGen and Banca Transilvania will remain among the most promising stocks in 2003, according to Liviu Giugiumica, head of BRD Securities, the brokerage company of BRD-SocGen. "The most promising companies in 2003 will be the banks - BRD-SocGen and Banca Transilvania, but also SNP Petrom, which will undergo significant operational restructuring after privatisation. Other companies with great potential are drugmaker Terapia, the Financial Investment Companies (SIFs) and the newly-listed companies, such as mobile telephony operators, utilities and banks (i.e. possibly BCR)," Giugiumica says. The BRD Securities official thinks that the next two years will consolidate the Romanian capital market, as the inflation drop will increase the appeal of equity investments and economic growth will help boost the activities of companies and increase the population's purchasing and saving power.
