Healthcare firm expects 25% growth in 2005

13.06.2005, 19:32 10

The Romanian division of General Electric Healthcare estimates it will register an approximately 25% increease in turnover this year, after concluding 2004 with sales of some 6.5 million euros. One of the factors to help it attain this goal will be the introduction of the personalised healthcare concept.

GE Healthcare''s revenues amount to about 14bn dollars (approximately 10bn euros) a year.

"The personalised healthcare programme will be introduced in Europe and implicitly in Romania this year," stated Engelbert Reif, a manager with GE Healthcare Eastern Europe.

The personalised healthcare processes entail integration of all pieces of equipment from radiology to patient monitoring and medical data storage, for a better monitoring of the patient progress and medical history.

The personalised healthcare means focusing treatment on the particularities of every patient, starting from the fact that no disease develops in the same way for two patients. The concept was first introduced on the US market.

"Personalised healthcare also means developing the technologies that should address the specific needs of every patient and ensure their care and treatment, regardless of the condition they are in, throughout the entire hospitalisation period," stated Octavian Netcu, the general manager of HTP Medical, GE Healthcare''s partner on the Romanian market.

GE Healthcare and HTP Medical have concluded a partnership to introduce the medical equipment made by the Maternal-Infant Care unit of the US giant on the Romanian market.

"The medical equipment market in Romania is worth approximately 100 million euros, which accounts for about 5 euros per capita a year, the lowest value in the entire Europe. Out of the total amounts spent on healthcare in Romania a year, medical equipment accounts for only 5%," HTP Medical official specified.

HTP Medical''s turnover was influenced by the existence of programmes for the rehabilitation of maternities and public hospitals in Romania, as well as by the increase in the private investments, Netcu explains.

HTP Medical is one of the suppliers of medical equipment to the Euroclinic hospital, to the Unirea Medical Centre, to the Romar Medical Centre, to the Proestetica Clinic and to the Polisani Medical Centre.

GE Healthcare has more than 42,500 employees worldwide, with operations in over 100 countries. It is present on most of the medical equipment market segments.
