Holcim takes over Ceprocim's engineering division

03.03.2008, 19:58 8

Swiss group Holcim, one of the largest producers of construction materials in Europe, at the end of last year took over Ceprocim Engineering, a part of the National Cement Institute (Ceprocim), in order to strengthen its engineering division in Romania. As early as last year, Holcim voiced an interest in the construction of a new Romanian plant if it was longer able to satisfy domestic demand. Under the circumstances, the acquisition of Ceprocim's engineering division could provide Holcim with the necessary know-how to build a new plant, given that the Ceprocim institute has been involved in the construction of all nine cement plants in Romania. When contacted by ZIARUL FINANCIAR, Ceprocim and Holcim confirmed the transaction, but did not wish to provide any further details. "Ceprocim sold the assets of its engineering department to Holcim, while research, consulting and technological development will remain at the institute," explained representatives of Ceprocim, which is listed on the Stock Exchange.
