Holzindustrie Schweighofer, one of the main players in the Romanian wood processing industry, with turnover worth above 120m euros in 2006, will add 25m euros to the investments it is currently operating on the domestic market. "We are in talks about a new section for the production of laminated parts destined to the Japanese market, as well as an electrical-thermal cogeneration station," stated Cosmin Capra, manager of Holzindustrie Schweighofer Romania. The station will use the bark of trees processed in the company's plant as raw material, according to Mediafax. The new projects at Radauti will add 25m euros to the company's investments in Romania, which will rise from 80 to 105m euros, according to Gerald Schweighofer, owner of Holzindustrie, quoted by Mediafax. The Austrian company is also about to finish a new timber plant in Radauti, to be added to an already existing unit in Sebes, Alba county. For this unit, the Austrian group's management had to choose between Romania and Ukraine. According to Mediafax, the new unit will have annual production of one million cubic metres and will create more than 500 new jobs. In 2006, Holzindustrie created turnover worth 121.3m euros, up around 30% on 2005. Beside the investments operated by Holzindustrie, Radauti is also the focal point for another Austrian giant, Egger, which is unfolding the first stage of a project to be developed in two or four stages depending on market growth. The first stage is put at 210m euros.
