The Germans at E.ON Gaz Romania and the French at Distrigaz Sud are warning that the price of imported gas will reach as much as 600 dollars per 1,000 cubic metres in the fourth quarter compared with the current price of 500 dollars, which could cause consumer bills to go up by approximately 15%. The record prices seen for oil in May and July will be witnessed by gas prices during the cold season, which overlaps with that time when consumption increases. E.ON Gaz says this new gas price hike is "absolutely necessary" given that imported gas is already bought at 500 dollars per 1,000 cubic metres, whereas ANRE only recognises 480 dollars as the price. While E.ON Gaz officials estimate gas prices will reach 600 dollars per 1,000 cubic metres in the fourth quarter, Distrigaz Sud officials only believe it will reach 550 dollars.
