In anticipation of Sandero, Dacia's sales drop 38% in May

Dacia sales on the local market fell by almost 40% in May compared with the same time last year and reached a volume of 7,740 cars, according to data provided by the Renault Group. According to the French company, the 40% decline in cumulated sales of Renault and Dacia on the local market was prompted by the imminent launch of the new Sandero, the first five-door model built on the Logan platform, as well as to the car fleet renewal programme, a statement backed by Constantin Stroe, vice-president of Automobile Dacia. "Dacia's decline mainly had to do with the 'Junk Car' ('Rabla') car renewal programme, as well as to the announcement of Sandero's launch. From the start of the car fleet renewal programme (on May 30) until Friday (June 13), Dacia sold 2,900 cars of the 3.199 allocated for the programme. Clearly, many clients waited for the programme to start," said Constantin Stroe. Worldwide, Dacia sales fell 22% in May, to 24,740 units, the biggest decline for the local manufacturer since the start of the Logan programme.
