Kraft Foods Romania, the biggest player on the chocolate market, estimates an increase of over 10% in its business against last year, when it made 120 million dollars (96 million euros). Last year the company sold approximately 10,000 tonnes of chocolate, with Poiana being its best selling brand. The chocolate market (including both chocolate tablets and bars) was estimated at some 50,000 tonnes last year. "The best selling type is milk chocolate," stated Peter Muller, general manager of Kraft Foods Romania. The company has recently re-launched Poiana, changing its recipe and packaging. "The Romanian chocolate market is dynamic and complex, with over 10 brands advertised and over 200 different varieties of chocolate products. It is a competitive market on which we want to consolidate our position," stated Muller. The Poiana brand is the best-selling chocolate tablet on the market and is owned by Kraft Foods, whose brands currently account for more than 20% of the market, according to the company's own estimates.
