Promotional investments will take Skol's sales beyond 1 million hectolitres

United Romanian Breweries Bereprod (URBB), the local branch of Dutch beer producer Carlsberg will invest more than 9 million euros (rate card) a year in order to promote the Skol brand, 25% more than it spent in 2007. "This year's investments in promoting the brand will consolidate Skol's position on the market. As for the increase in the volume of Skol sales by the end of 2008, we estimate it will reach 18-20%," stated Catalin Ignat, marketing vice-president of URBB Romania. Ignat added the main factors that will influence this trend would be the growth estimated for the mainstream segment, the high temperatures expected for this summer and Euro 2008, because the Carlsberg group is one of the six partners of UEFA and the sponsor of the Euro 2008 football championship. URBB invested approximately 7.5 million euros (rate card) in promoting the Skol brand in 2007, a year when the brand sold more than 900,000 hectolitres and posted a 17% growth in the volume of sales compared with 2006.
