Centrul Medical Unirea (Unirea Medical Centre - CMU), one of the leading players on the private medical services market, posted turnover worth 20 million RON (5.45 million euros) in the first six months of the year, up 74% against the 11.5 million RON (3.45 million euros) derived during the same time last year. "The higher than expected results have been spurred by the opening of the diagnosis and treatment centre in Baneasa, of CMU Kids, the clinic dedicated exclusively to children, and by the acquisition of the clinics in Cluj. We may revise this year's growth estimates upwards," said Sergiu Negut, executive manager of CMU. The company started a 20 million-euro investment programme in 2008, with the main projects concluded by mid-year being the acquisition of the Motilor Medical Centre in Cluj-Napoca, for 0.5 million euros, the opening of the diagnosis and treatment centre in Baneasa, which entailed a 7.4 million-euro investment and the opening of CMU Kids. At the beginning of July, CMU had 65,000 subscribers, about 20,000 more than halfway through last year. The company became part of the portfolio of investment fund 3i at the beginning of 2007, a fund that also holds stakes in professional cleaning firm Romprest and in local software producer Gecad Technologies.
