IKEA pays Cataramă 1.8m euros after a several years' trial

Elvila, a company controlled by businessman Viorel Cataramă, haswon a lawsuit with IKEA Trading, the representative office throughwhich the Swedish giant acquires furniture from Romanian producers,in the wake of which it will receive around 1.8m euros.


The case was registered in 2005 and after three years BucharestCourt of Law decided that IKEA Trading und Design (currently IKEASupply AG Switzerland) should pay 0.6m euros in damages and another82,000 RON (20,000 euros) as trial expenditures.
Subsequently, both firms filed an appeal, and the High Court ofCassation and Justice ruled that IKEA Trading also pay 49,000 eurosfor the unused raw materials and 1.1m euros for the unrealised gaindue to order halt.
Contacted by ZF, Viorel Cataramă confirmed the existence of thisverdict, but specified he "has not and is not discussing trialoutside court".
IKEA Trading representatives made no comment by edition close.
