The main telecom operators on the Romanian market have all released strategies involving a heavy focus of investments on the development of fixed and wireless Internet access, whilst at the same time targeting the most profitable client segment, the business segment. Orange Romania, leader of the domestic mobile telephone market announced it would invest 200 million euros this year, with a large part of the sum being allocated for increasing Internet mobile access speed to 7.2 Mbps during the fourth quarter of this year. The operator will also extend the number of cities where it offers combined telephone and data services, based on WiMax wireless technology, for its big business clients. Vodafone Romania, which will launch Internet mobile access services this month, at speeds of 3.6 Mbps in 23 cities, this month announced it had reached 400,000 clients for Internet mobile access through its 3G and 3.5G services. The operator plans to make further increases for Internet mobile access speeds, but has not supplied an exact schedule for any new launches. Vodafone also announced it would continue to focus on its business clientele, through its division of integrated services, which currently has around 6,000 corporate clients. Yesterday, RomTelecom announced that it would invest in building the biggest data network in Southern Europe, which will allow data transfers to travel at a speed of 40 Gbps throughout its network.
