Otter Distribution company, the representative of the international footwear brands Otter, Ara and Geox wants to own more than 20 stores by 2008. "We have focused on Bucharest thus far and want to expand to the rest of the country in the future by opening stores in cities like Iasi or Brasov. Our plan is to open at least three stores a year so as to have 20 stores over the next three years," Filip Schwartz, Otter Distribution manager said. Schwartz says that every new Otter store opened takes up 50,000-euro investments plus over 200,000 euros in products. Otter Distribution has 10 stores in Bucharest, Cluj, Constanta and Timisoara. "The footwear market in Romania is developing rather fast and this is largely due to the change in the behaviour of the domestic consumers. Romanians have started to emphasise quality and comfort and have come to appreciate certain brands of international renown," Schwartz stated. He believes Romanians are more and more interested in the colour and design trends in the big fashion capitals like Paris or Milan. Schwartz feels the entry of other players on the Romanian footwear market helps diversify the footwear supply both in terms of quality and design. ZF
