Ana Electronic goes to Rasdaq

05.03.2003, 00:00 10

One of the top companies part of the group owned by businessman George Copos, Ana Electronic, will be listed on RASDAQ as ANEL as of March 7. Ana Electronic will therefore become the second company of the group traded on the OTC market, after Ana Imep. The businessman at the end of last year had said he had floatation plans for Ana Hotels, the group's hotel business division, as well. Ana Electronic is an electronics and home appliance retailer. Ana Electronic has also assembled Samsung (Korea), Seleco (Italy), Akai (Japan) and Sonic (Ana's own brand) TV sets over the last few years, with only Akai and Sonic still assembled at the moment. The investment required was worth more than $200,000, with the entire productive capacity, 100,000 units, used in 1996, its best year ever. Output has been constantly dropping over the last few years, though, due to the lower and lower demand on the domestic market. This prompted the company to embrace a multi-brand strategy in 2000, moving on from the "Samsung age" to promoting cheaper and less known brands like Akai and Sonic.
