Dona pharmacy chain, one of the major players on the Romanian pharmaceutical retail market, derived 8-month turnover worth 16.52 million euros, up 57% from the same period of last year.
"The results were triggered by the reorganisation of the sales department and by consolidating the positions of newly-opened pharmacies. We also implemented a new marketing policy that has led to consumers becoming increasingly aware of the Farmaciile Dona brand name," said Razvan Nidelea, sales manager with the pharmacy chain.
Over the same period, the company saw its profit rise by 300%, to 0.25 million euros.
According to Nidelea, both turnover and profit are 95% in line with the company's budgeted values.
Last year, the company operated a network of 35 pharmacies in Bucharest and other major cities, ranking among the top five players on the market.
"In the first eight months of the year, we increased our network by 10 pharmacies, bringing the total number of stores to 45. However, we are now to open a further 15 new outlets by the end of the year," stated Nidelea.
The company has earmarked 1.5 million euros for investment, aiming to expand its network, as well as to modernise its infrastructure this year. The company also plans to acquire regional players, as part of its business consolidation strategy.
Dona pharmacies derived profit standing at 0.44 million euros and a turnover worth 18.7 million euros last year.
This year the company has budgeted for a profit worth 0.65 million euros. Currently, the company numbers 356 employees.
Dona's main competitors are Sensiblu, Help Net, Catena, City Pharma, Centropharm, Remedio and Omnia.
The main strategy of these companies is to raise their number of outlets to compete with the ever-increasing demand for drugs and cosmetic products.
Pharmacies registered drug sales of some 900 million euros last year.
