Siemens invited to Electroputere's privatisation

04.09.2003, 00:00 6

Romanian Government would like to see Germany's Siemens Group participate in the privatisation of companies on the Romanian market such as Electroputere Craiova. The Siemens officials said they would look into this and request more information. "We have met with the Prime Minister and other ministers and we were offered the possibility to express our interest in Electroputere. We are running important projects on the Romanian market, and the Romanian Government would like a more active involvement from us instead of the mere equipment supplier position. We promised we would research this possibility," Georg Rozinsky, Siemens SRL general manager and the representative of the group in Romania told Ziarul Financiar. A letter of intent for Electroputere's locomotive unit has already been submitted by US' General Motors. PM Adrian Nastase on Monday met with the company's Chairman of the Board Heinrich V. Pierer and with its deputy chairman Konrad Pernstich to analyse ways for Siemens to continue its involvement in projects such as the infrastructure and telecommunications development in Romania. Siemens officials said the group regarded Romania as its favourite Balkan partner, for which reason it had relocated part of its operations to Sibiu. ZF
